ATALIS
Your complete baseline from AIM to ATC
This video presents how ATALIS can be used to produce an ICAO Obstacle Chart.
The video illustrates the relation between the database and the charts. Especially, it shows how modifying stored data automatically updates the corresponding chart(s).
In this case, the database is used to store the obstacle data. All obstacles exist independently of the chart in the database, so they can be integrated into the relevant AIP sections as well as in other charts. The database model for obstacles is directly imported from eTOD (electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data, the data model recommended by ICAO) and supports EUROCONTROL's AIXM 5.1.
ATALIS charting module makes use of the well-known Geographical Information System (GIS) MapInfo. All functionalities from Mapinfo are available and ensure a precise geo-localization as well as advanced touch-up functionalities. Additional features have been included to address certain issues specific to aeronautical charting, such an automated MSA drawing tool or a set of official ICAO symbols.
Here the video focuses on the "Profile" functionality. This functionality is exemplified with an ICAO Obstacle Chart. Obstacles and runway profile are taken from the database, while grid, graduations and scales are handled directly by the charting module. Automated functionalities, such as numbering the obstacles according to the distance to the threshold, are also featured. Eventually, every step of the production chart is processed within the charting module: starting only from the data, the final publishable version is produced just using ATALIS.
